Thank you Marianne,I've been waiting to read this ever since you told us about it. It's one of the best, most complete article, I've ever read about Maastricht. And Bev, I think Andre's castle is shown several places on this website.

Thank you Marianne for a great read. Are any of those photos, Andres "castle"?

I FORGOT! In the picture above, towards the lower right, there's a girl who looks just like my daughter! Gave me quite a "start" at first! Except I know she's not been there.
(she's wearing all black) which is typical of her anyway.

Shirley, Maybe your daughter went to Maastricht for Carnival? And maybe even to Andre's favorite pub? (just kidding).

I love those civic events, when the whole community comes out to mingle, wine & dine with one another. Good People Bonding.

      and...FUN too

Wouldn't it be fun to go to Carneval? There's a web site I go to quite often that has a lot of information about Carneval. It's called THE HOLLAND RING.lots of good information in there about all things Dutch.

Dear Marianne, What a wonderful story about Maastricht!!! You certainly are a gifted writer. I almost felt like I was there with you (and wishing I was). The pictures are beautiful and give such a keen feeling of being there. Thank you so much for sharing this extraordinary journey you had. The history you told was something I had never imagined. Like you, I always thought of Holland as full of canals and dikes. Had no idea all this history came from that spot. Thank you so much for the wonderful article, pictures and perceptions. Hope I get to make that trip some day also.
Love and many wishes that you continue in your writing, Carol

Bev, in case you have a hard time finding it, the one I'm thinking about is under "featured fans", go the the "Ineke-Den Haag", she has some good pictures there of the castle.
Ineke, you do take the best pictures!

"A Visit To Maastricht" will probably be my only hope of being there! It was so thorough that I do believe I just arrived back home. For a moment it felt like I WAS actually there. Thank you Marianne for a wonderful story. You made it simple and easy to read, there was so much great information and some really nice pictures. It truly was enjoyable!
I have to go unpack now.

Wow, Marianne what a great story about Maastricht!! Do you come from Holland? Have you been in Maastricht?? If anybody wants to see Andre's castle, look at the Maastricht slide show on Sonja's webside under "pictures". The castle is called "De Torentjes" (little towers). Marianne, the square near the basilica Our Lady is not the Vrijthof, but "Onze Lieve Vrouwenplein" (Our dear Lady square). Near the Vrijthof are the two churches St. Jan and St. Servaas.
    Love, Ineke.

dear Ineke Just a note to thank you for
the slide presentation Well done, I found the article in an old travel magazine dated in 1992 so it was quite old, but not outdated I have to check the pictures as I think that all were not from the article. My ancestors came from Holland to America in 1643
when Albany N.Y was Beaverwyck, N.Y city was New Amsterdam & the whole colony was New Holland. Quite a bit of history for me. From thinking I was an orphan to having so many relatives is
ming boggleing. All the families had ten or twelve children, who married & had the same. They are scattered all
over the U.S & Canada I only know the immediate family plus one cousin who lives in Kelowna B.C. about two blocks from my previous home. Talk about small world. I've not been to Holland or Maastricht but not because I don't
want to make the trip. It would be first on the agenda if I should be so fortunate to win a big lottery, but that's in my dream. Thanks again for sharing the slides. I can pick you out
in the pics as well as your husband so
Ifeel that I already know you but it would be a pleasure to meet you face to face. Love & good wishes, Marianne
