Perri Pigeon

Perri Pigeon

Pretty & Alert...that's what the email to the pigeon rescue group said.  It started as I was driving home from work.  I no sooner pulled out of my work parking lot, than I saw this pretty bird standing in a water puddle.  Rolling closer to her, I thought she would fly out of harms way.  She didn't.
The honking horn had no effect on her.

I found myself opening the car door and picking up this bird.  Yes, I am an animal softy, as are so many of Andre's Fans.  Cradling the pigeon in my arms as we get into my car, I gently place her in a make-shift nest made of an old towel I carry inside my vehicle.

Perri lay upon the towel for her entire ride to Fairfield where upon arrival I put her in my spare cage. Zorro Cockatiel, his wife Anne Bird and their babies Betsy Boy & BabyZ were all chattering and singing songs of welcome to the new visitor.

I told my friends I had a new pet, but it's just a loaner.  I noticed Perri has a band on her leg, which lead me to search the internet for clues as to whom might be Perri's Mommy or Daddy.  After emailing Terry W with the Band Color and Number, I waited to hear back.  And, hear back I did.  Terry emailed me with information on the band and bird, (and information on how to take care of pigeons) and said to wait for additional information on who the owner was, if that was possible to find.

Tonight after receiving another email from Terry, I called the number provided and spoke to Joe, who happens to live near my work site.  Joe was wondering where his Red Roller Pigeon had been these last two days.  He was kind enough to explain to me about Rollers, how they do rolls as they fly.

Finishing the story...Perri goes home to her Daddy tomorrow.  This is a very happy ending, even though I will miss Perri.  She will be with her family, and I will be happy to have had her as my guest for a few days.

What a precious story! You are a true lover of animals Sally...this was a story worth telling, and worth hearing. What a pretty pigeon, all brown and silver. I love to hear of happy endings, especially with any kind of animals, even our fair feathered friends! We have love to give to so many, there should only be peace in the world.

Wonderful story, it is. I love animals of all kind. I do have a German Shephard, now, keeps me company. I was thinking to volunteer at an animal shelter, but I do feel so sorry for them, I get sick. My heart just melts. Thanks again, for the lovely card, was a pleasant surprise. Love Kati

WOW what a great story Sally - kudos to you! I just adore animals - all kinds and I cry when I see them on the roads. When I was younger I accidentally hit a chipmunk that ran across the road (they go so fas) and I cried so much my husband had to take over the driving. I just hate to see any precious creature hurt or killed. Thank you Sally for rescuing beautiful Perri. Hugs

I am like that too. I do not like to see animals being harmed, but in your case I know you did all you could to avoid the situtation.

Animals add so much to our lives.

Hi Kati, hope you are doing well. I have had two very good German Shephard dogs, both were precious to me. They certainly are intelligent, beautiful animals. Someday I plan on having another one.
I swear our animals are almost human the way they stay by us in all the trials we go through. Good or bad, they are with us. I doubt that I could ever volunteer or work at a shelter because my heart goes out to them all and I could never leave them knowing they need a home. It's just too sad that they are there.

I try to leave a message about our Csardas in the monthly Blog, times me out. Slow computer, gets to me. It is a simple folk dance, two to the right, two to the left, with Your pair on the rythm of the music. We will not learn any fancy stuff Sally, this will be enough to have a good time. No, We have to ask Andre to play Csardas for us!! Kati
