Your 7 minutes of fame.....with André

Please join this excursion into the Twilight Zone......

It's that time of.day, you make your routine trip out to the mailbox.  You open the door & discover the usual pluethora of mail, noting that each envelope seems to be a different size & shape.  As you make your return trip to your home, you routinely scan each piece of mail, trying to discern the junk from the bills.

hmmmm, what's this?  At first glance it appears to be a real honest to goodness piece of first class mail, unbelieveably it also appears to be a handwritten address to you, from The Netherlands.

Your pace quickens as does your heart rate.  Once inside your home, you set all of the other mail to one side, focusing your undivided attention on ....this!

With a quizical look on your face, you open the envelope & extract the contents.....you immediately skip to the end to see who it is from........André Rieu!

André Rieu!  This isn't a bill, it's not a form letter, it's not even a newsletter....what the heck is it?

Sooooo......you return to the beginning of the card & begin reading, by now your heart is pounding.

This card is a gold enlayed, engraved invitation which says:

"Dear (your name here),"

"You have been hand picked by me, André Rieu, to come visit me in The Netherlands.  I know you are one of my biggest fans, I would like to meet you personally to ask your opinion on a DVD I'm thinking of producing.

I'm extending this same offer to 49 other fans.  The purpose of this invitation is to specifically ask if:

  • Would you like me to produce an entire DVD featuring the soloists & Die Platin Tenors that have appeared with me in the past?
  • Which soloists &  song//numbers would you like included?
  • Should this DVD be composed of prior performances or should they be all new numbers & with which soloist?

I'm scheduling all 50 of you very special fans on the date mentioned below.  Each of you will be given a specific 7 minutes of my time on September 1st.

I will, of course, pay for your round trip if you RSVP.  It is important that you understand you must limit your conversation to the questions above & do so within your scheduled 7 minutes.  Time limits will be strictly adhered to!

I'm looking forward to meeting you & hope you can accept my invitation"

Sincerely,

André Rieu"

ps    RSVP

====================================================

You have plenty of time before September 1st to compose you thoughts so you can fully express yourself directly to the questions.

sooooooo.........what will you say?

    1. The White Horse Inn - Platin Tenors and all the girls;
    2. I Belong to Me - Suzan;
    3. Don't Cry for Me Argentina - Suzan;
    4. The Rose - Suzan, Carmen & Carla;
    5. Once Upon a Time in the West - Carla;
    6. O Mio Babbino Caro - Carmen;
    7. Halleluia Chorus - Entire Orchestra including Platin Tenors and all girls.

    I'm certain the next DVD I watch I'll surely find several more that I'd wished I'd requested here. However, these are a good start.

    Someone tell me where I'm wrong here!

      Nothing wrong at all. Every one of those is great.
      *In Kansas City 2005, I was at a Meet & Greet when a little girl told Carmen her favorite song was The Rose. Carmen brought the little girl to Suzan and she again told Suzan, saying she sang it every night before bed. Suzan knelt down and asked, "Would you like to sing it with us?" The little girl nodded her head and started to sing, Suzan & Carmen joined in. Those few of us there, were treated to an A Capella event. It was lovely.

    What an honor to be selected! My choice would be a DVD with new numbers, ideally to include the sopranos (especially Suzan, my favorite), the three tenors, some violin solos by Andre, with classical music in the genre of the Dreaming DVD, one of my favorites. Most of the past performances appear already on existing DVDs and would be duplicates? Anyway, just my thoughts. Have a good trip!

      Hi Jeanine Ann! We live in Grove City which is about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. But, I have eaten a Hershey bar once! We have been to the Pittsburgh concert two years in a row. This last year, we were front row and center stage. Andre could have just about hit us with his bow! I'm still not certain how we got such fabulous seats! We are already looking forward to next year, and may even follow the JSO around PA, MD and OH while they are on the east coast. What a show! We have all of their DVDs and watch them regularly. Perhaps we'll meet you at a concert someday. Best always! Denny

      ===========================================================================

      Immediately upon being ushered into Andre's office, at precisely my appointed time;

      Good afternoon Andre, I want to skip the preliminaries & get right to the subject matter!  <Bill has a stop watch which is already running & placed it on Andre's desk>

      Here is a written list of my suggestions: <a full color photo of me would be attached of my face>

      • Would you like me to produce an entire DVD featuring the soloists & Die Platin Tenors that have appeared with me in the past?

                Yes!

      • Which soloists &  song//numbers would you like included?
        • Carmen  - Oh Mia Babbino Caro
        • Benny Neyman - Ode an Maastricht
        • Otto - Danes Don't Lie
        • Carla - Juliska
        • Mirusia - Romanza
        • Suzan - I Belong to Me
        • Die Platin Tenors - Heut’ ist der schönste Tag
        • Carl Moik -  Heut’ kommen d’Engerln auf
        •
      • Should this DVD be composed of prior performances or should they be all new numbers & with which soloist?
        • I would like to see each of the above performers repeat their performance of the songs mentioned above
        • Then I'd like you to choose a new number for each & here are some suggestion of new songs
          • Wunderbar - from Cole Porter's musical, "Kiss Me Kate" - I'd like the number to be sung with 1 Soprano & Benny, & see them dancing with each other as they sing
          • Waltzing Matilda - the Aussies will love this one!
          • The Last Waltz - I'd like all the sopranos & male vocalists dancing with each other during this number (waltzing, of course)
          • Tammy - originally made famous by Debbie Reynolds (movie Actress)
          • I'd like to see 4 sporanos matched up with Die Platin Tenors + Benny, in a Square Dance.  I'd like to see Otto as the Caller, directing the dancers to the music of your choice.  This is strictly American culture.
          • I'd like to hear Mirusia sing, The Star Spangled Banner (the U.S. National Anthem)
          • Entrance with - Okland Raiders National Football League Team's theme song
          • Rocky Top - University of Tennessee's theme song after they score a touchdown.  This song has great lyrics & should be sung by Die Platin Tenors
          • Tennessee Waltz - made famous by Patti Paige; to be sung by Carla
          • That's Amore - made famous by Dean Martin.  To be sung by Die Platin Tenors
          • I left My Heart in San Francisco - to be sung by Benny Neyman
          • A medley of Dixie & Yankee Doodle Dandy - do the arrangement like Tirolrock.  Have the 4 Sopranos sing a few lines of Dixie only to have Die Platin Tenors interrupt with a few lines of Yankee Doodle Dandy
          • Maverick - theme song & lyrics from the mid 50's TV show.  Catchy tune & great lyrics to be sung by Die Platin Tenors
          • Those Magnificant Men & Their Flying Machines - Theme music from the movie which also has great lyrics.  It's all about a 1905 air race from London to Paris; flyers from America, Britian, France, Germany, Italy, & Japan
          • Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - Theme song from movie with great lyrics to be sung by Carla & Carmen vs Die Platin Tenors
          • Toot Sweets - a clever catchy tune with great lyrics from the movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, to be sung by Suzan vs Bela
          • Bless Your Beautiful Hide - from the 1953 musical 7 Brides for 7 Brothers - to be sung by a baritone; this is catch tune with grrrrreat lyrics.

      ==========================================================================

      I would have rehearsed, so I could complete my presentation in only 3 minutes.

      I would then stand, "Thank you Andre, for your time & the invitation.  I'm now leaving after only 3 minutes.  I want to separate myself from others & leave early, so you will remember me &my suggestions."

      "In conclusion, Andre, I'd like to shake your hand & yes, I'm mindful of your reservation about shaking hands.  I won't squeeze too hard."  <I'd smile, & then extend my hand in hopes Andre would shake it>

    I would love to see little Connie Talbot sing with the JSO. She might even do a duet with Akim!

    Mostly, I would like to see All New Material. André can introduce us to some of his favorites. Maybe bring the Dutch tunes to the US. What about a CD of Music from Around the World? A song for every country André has performed in? (that would be a lot of music.)
    Of course I would love to see the Soloists each have a featured song.

    Die Plantin Tenore: A Pirates Life For Me (walt disney studios)

    Suzan: Who's Sorry Now

    Ruud: Loeende Klokke With Frank on Carillons!

    All the singers: 't Huikske with the words for the audience to join in. Tra La La La, Tra La La La ! *Maybe followed up with: Geef Mig Ei Mulke

    JSO: There's No Business Like Showbusiness

    René, Roger, Ruud, Noel, Ton & Leon featured on the closing finale: Cherry Pink And Apple Blossom White

    André solo: Can't Help Falling In Love

    Leon: Three O'Clock In The Morning

    Gary & Mirusia: Amapola

    André & JSO: Polonaise -1 Op 4

    JSO: Blue Champagne

    I have more, but think I would make the concert 5 hours long. Not certain Andre and his JSO would appreciate that!

    If I could really tell them what to play, I would say, "Anything your Heart Desires".

    Well since Mr Bill has chosen to put us all in the TWILIGHT ZONE and it's all fantasy anyway, I guess anything is possible. André might laugh at some of our choices but hey, it's fun to dream, right? "fairytales can come true, it can happen to you, if you're young at heart".............While we're dreaming, I might as well wish for a cd with no singing at all, only instrumental, something to spotlight the many talents of the orchestra. Don't get me wrong, I love all the singers, but just would like to have another cd without, and maestro, please, more violin music!!!

    For my 7 Minutes With Andre - first I would RSVP because I would not get there without it.
    For the DVD I would first say
    Yes to Platin Tenors and soloists but limited (Need more Andre solos)

    1) Andre & JSO opens with Chopin Opus 10
    Etude 3
    2) Andre solo- Meditation
    3) Platin Tenors - White Horse Inn with
    Sopranos
    4) Andre - Song Of The Volga
    5) Mirusia - Wishing You Were Somehow
    Here Again
    6) Andre solo - Toselli's Serenade
    7) Carmen - O Mio Bambino Caro
    8) Andre & JSO - My Heart Will Go On
    9) Platin Tenors - Ach Ich Hab' In
    Meinem Herzen
    10)Andre & JSO - El Signe
    11)Andre & JSO - Spartacus
    12)Andre solo - America The Beautiful
    13)Benny Neyman - Ode To Maastricht
    14)Andre & JSO - Poliushko Polie
    15)Platin Tenors & Sopranos - Vienna
    City Of My Dreams
    16)All - Nun's Choir
    17)Andre & JSO - Gypsy Princess Medley
    18)Andre & JSO - Second Waltz
    19)All - Adieu, Little Captain Of My
    Heart

    Once I give Andre the list I would ask if I could shake the hand that brings me such beautiful music - he extends his hand and gives me a kiss (european style) instead.
    All this in just 7 MINUTES!
    Now I will never be the same. This list is not complete but he would to make a double DVD for all the music I would like to hear.

    I must re-think my ideas The Twilight Zone .
    After I've realized that this is a dream-come-true letter I've actually received from André Rieu, I RSVP immediately, then I set about the come up with some ideas on a new dvd. I realize that André Rieu doesn't need any help on a dvd, however, I shall do my best. So far all of his dvd's have been extremely enjoyable.

    I would say a definite YES to the first question.
    Second question...
    The Platin Tenors singing, "Today Is The Most Beautiful Day", "Solo Tu", "Torna a Surriento", "Amigos Para Siempre" (along with Sopranos) and "Oh, I Have In My Heart".
    Carmen - "O Mio Bambino Caro" (of course), "Danny Boy", "Song Of Vilja", "Fields of Love".
    Suzan - "My Heart Will Go On", "The Last Rose", "Sound Of Music", "Don't Cry For Me Argentina".
    Carla - "Once Upon A Time In The West", "Romantic Anonyme".
    Mirusia - "Amazing Grace", "I Have A Dream".
    All Sopranos singing "The Rose", "I Will Follow Him", "Vieni sul mar", "Please Don't Go",

    All - "`t kleine café", "Clog Dance", "White Horse Inn", "Hallelujah"
    "All Men Will Be Brothers", "Bolero" (I love the way that André conducts these last two songs),
    André, anything and everything you wish to play of course and "Intermezzo Sinfonico", "Dances With Wolves", Romance For Clara, "I Love You", "Lost Heroes", "Romance"(Gadfly), "Serenade", "Piano Concert Nr. 5 Op.73 (Immortal Beloved)".
    I would love to hear you play
    "Shenandoah", "Unchained Melody", "Bridge Over Troubled Waters", "Be" and "Dear Father" (by Neil Diamond). Also, "Eric's Theme" (by Vangelis), and "Butterfly".

    "Aria" (The Humming Song) with Heidi Pittie.
    I would love to hear a European segment with "Swallows From Austria", "How Beautiful is our Limburg", "Vienna, City of My Dreams", "Ode To Maastricht" with Benny Neyman, "Lili Marleen", and "Wooden Heart".
    Third question - I love all the music that you, André Rieu, has chosen in the past, whether or not you choose new songs or songs from previous arrangements doesn't make any difference to me, I'm happy with ALL you do.

    I do realize that I have most likely stayed longer than my 7 minutes, however, I believe that Bill, aka the Pot Stirrer left minutes on the table.
    I also realize André Rieu, that no matter which songs I've listed here, there will always be more that I could have listed.
    And please realize that no matter what type of a program we suggest for the new dvd and whatever songs you actually choose to include, it will be a PERFECT dvd and ALL of us will be happy because it's YOU, our maestro, your wonderful orchestra, your Sopranos and Tenors, who makes the dvd's wonderful.

    Thank you André Rieu for allowing me this opportunity, it was extremely enjoyable and I will never forget it, ever.

    Thankyou for extending the most wonderful opportunity in being selected to provide input and ideas to your three questions.

    Please accept this as my RSVP.

    I would like to say a definate YES to the first question due to the sublime concerts and performances we have enjoyed, from the combination of yourself and these other great talents.

    In answer to your second question: a selection of the current outstanding repertoire performed by Die Platin Tenors encompassing all our favourites as listed by the other fans would be a truly superb addition to any DVD.

    In terms of solo soprano performances.. Carmen, Suzan, Carla and Mirusia delivering a fine selection of their most recognised songs as listed in previous replies, could only ensure a most successful and enjoyable DVD for discerning audiences around the world.

    Suggestions regarding new materials could be the addition of songs previously performed by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and Sarah Brightman.

    A combination of existing performances and new material would generate diversity and interest in the new content whilst allowing existing fans to enjoy their time honoured favourites.

    The addition of new material is consistent with the values of providing beautiful music to the world, expanding the fan base and generating broader musical appreciation.

    As I am an Australian, your intended visit is generating tremendous excitement and anticipation. From my initial discovery of yourself, your wonderful orchestra and supporting artists, I have observed with delight, the development of a legion of fans here and the resurgence of quality classical music.

    I would be pleased to suggest some music you may wish to consider including in your upcoming concerts in Australia.

    Magnificent music such as the score from the famous Australian movie "The Man From Snowy River" would be a marvellous addition to your production and would sound incredible when performed by yourself and the JSO.

    I thank you most sincerely for the opportunity to contribute to this conversation between yourself and other dedicated fans. I would be delighted to expand on my comments or participate in any further activities.

    A loyal and truly delighted fan. Jenny.
