André Rieu Tickets Selling Well For 2009

Andre Rieu tickets selling well for his 2009 concerts

By Bob Grossweiner & Jane Cohen

Dutch violinist/conductor/composer Andre Rieu, who has popularized the waltz through his concerts presented by PBS-TV during fund raisers, has already sold 300,000 tickets for 2009. In 2008 he moved 714,617 tickets and had a gross revenue of $76.9 million, placing at the number eight position in Pollstar's top 10 chart of worldwide touring acts--in between the Eagles and Kenny Chesney. The average of 10,065 tickets sold per concert is the highest a classical artist has ever placed in the Pollstar Chart.

His success was driven by strong ticket sales in Europe and Australia for his World Stadium Tour--extravaganza with a full size reproduction of Empress Sisi's Castle, the biggest stage ever to go on tour.

"The USA is next on the list," Rieu, 59, said in a statement. "It's my goal to tour the States with the Schonbrunn Castle. The success there hasn't kept up with the success in Europe, Asia and Australia, and we're going to do everything possible to conquer the USA and sell out football stadiums."

He has 35 North American dates booked from April 17 through June 25 performing in arenas, theatres and ballrooms. He also plans to tour Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and, of course, his home country the Netherlands.

I live in England and would like to know if thre is an Andre Rieu appreciation society here in the UK. I have not been successful in locating one as yet (7/1/09). I would love for Andre to visit the UK. I may have to go to Las Vegas to see him in June if at all possible or somewhere in Europe. He is absolutely wonderful but I don't think he is very well known in the UK.

Hello Sandra, I don't know of any big group in the UK, but I know there are plenty of fans.   You can start a group, maybe meet for Lunch?  Everyone can bring their own list of favorite DVDs or Songs?

I just went to a local (2 hours away) Active Retirement Community, and we had an Andre Rieu Luncheon.  We watched Welcome To My World and talked.  It was fun.

Hi Sandra, if you go to André's website guestbook,  andrerieu.com you can read all the letters of fans in the UK.  I have seen a lot of fans asking for André to return to their country.  You could post a note there and maybe some fans who are in your area (just mention where you live) will post and you can exchange emails and maybe get something started that way.  Good luck.  Hugs

Will Andre be putting on a third concert in Melbourne this year? My husband and I enjoyed the concert so much last year we would love to go again but missed out on ground level seating. We would love it if there was another concert and have the opportunity to purchase ground level seats.

I also have a question I hope someone knows the answer to re Andre's October Australian tour.
We're booked on a bus to the Newcastle concert on 18th October but now I see that that night is a "pre concert curtain raiser". Does anyone know if it is to be the full concert? I'm wondering if I should rebook for a different night. Going by bus seemed like a good idea, as I live a 4 hour drive from either Sydney or Newcastle.

Hi Jill, The pre-concert curtain raiser is a separate function to the concert. Tickets to the curtain raiser are sold separately for $29. Then you have to have a normal concert ticket for the show. I don't know how much you have paid or what the deal is, but it would seem strange to me for a bus to be going just to the pre-function. Also note that this is not a meet and greet with Andre & JSO. If you have booked the package through the bus company, I would suggest you contact them to verify exactly what it includes.

I ended up ringing Ticketek and they'd told me the same as you - thank you for answering. I'll know exactly what the bus company is doing when their brochure arrives with the receipt - hopefully this week. They are very vague on the phone, have apparently been swamped with people wanting to book and have got about 6 buses going now it seems. I'm still trying to convince them they need to come through the town where I live so we don't have to commute.

I have just written to Sky TV and another person who works in the industry to ask WHY Andre has never (as far as I can recall!) had any of his concerts shwon on any UK channel, even his Albert Hall performance has not been aired over here.
I am sure SKY ARTS could playout one of his concerts, or aquire the rights to the last Maastricht concert ?

I WOULD SAY, SOMEBODY NEEDED TO PROMOTE HIM THERE, ANY TV STATION OR A COMPANY, IF HE WOULD HAVE AN AGREEMENT WITH.

If I knew how to promote I would! There are quite a few more people I know who now know about him, AND have fallen under his spell!
I just don't know how to get the media interested, apart from writing to them
etc, plus I'm not sure Andre's PR dept would like me stepping on their toes so to speak.

IF YOU ARE SUPER RICH, HAVING MILLIONS OF ENGLISH POUNDS TO PROMOTE HIM PRIVATELY, THEY WOULD TALK WITH YOU, IF YOU DO NOT, FORGET IT. I AM SURE, AS HIS OPERATION IS SUPER, HE DOES HAVE THE BEST BRAINS AS HIS PRS.

I know this is short notice but you might like to let fellow Andre Rieu fans know that virtuoso violinist Vov Dylan and his orchestra is doing a FREE Tribute to Andre Rieu Concert at Canterbury Leagues Club in Sydney from 8.30pm Saturday 17 January 2009.

    Regards,

    Harold
