Everyone here is already your friend. This is the place where ALL of Andre Rieu Fans can chat, share and join one another in Friendship.
Welcome To All Fans of Andre Rieu

I HAVE NEVER RESPONDED TO ANYONE'S MUSIC AS I HAVE TO BELOVED 'ANDRE' WHEN THE OLD 'STRAUS' ORCHESTRA WAS IN MY TOWN IN 1973, I BECAME GOOD FRIENDS WITH STEFAN PUNZI, A VIOLINIST. HE TOLD ME ABOUT A 'YOUNG' VIOLINIST THAT "SOMEDAY THE WHOLE WORLD WOULD KNOW"
That's a nice story Laine.
What town were you in?
When I was young I would never have believed it if someone had told me a Dutch Classical Violinist would change my musical tastes and make my spirit soar.

New message from Andre on "The Daily Rieu" page. Take a last look at the stage for this year.
Hi Marilyn, please see the entry marked "Andre Rieu Stamps" and that will give you all the information on how to order. Hugs
Hello Again, I just had another thought, if there is anyone going to the concert in the Vrijthof square this July from Canada, the Toronto area for instance, could they contact me regarding buying stamps?
Thanks again,
Jean
July 1st, I'd like to wish all our Canadian friends a Great Canada Day. As for the Maastricht concerts, unfortunately I'm not one of the lucky ones going so I'm hoping all who do will let us know what it was like. It has to be the ultimate experience. Virginia, I just read your post in the June page & I did get a chance to listen to Mirsuia's song, Bethlehem Morning. You are right, she's every bit as good, maybe better that Sandi Patty(?). I listened to both. Gosh there are so many new birthdays for this month I'll have to be on my toes. BTW, don't you all think that the picture of Andre's "back yard" looks like one of Marc's paintings? I do.
Gostaria de saber data de show aqui no Brasil - São Paulo
Grata
Mara
I hope that everyone has a great month of July! It's definitely summer here.
I agree with Laine about André's music in that I also have never responded to anyone's music as I have to André's music. There are several theories in my mind as to why this is true...however...I really don't question the reasons, I just accept it and go with it!
There was a long build up to last months concert that I attended, and now, I wait for another time when I can see André again at my next concert.
Have a great month everyone!!
Hi their, i just received a email, from my friend Liz, who is currently in Vienna, and in a few days she will be in Maastricht, to attend 5 of Andre's concerts. Happy July everyone. The warm weather is defitely here - maybe 93 today, but is expected to cool down some starting tomorrow. I still have a "glow" from the June 14 concert. I hope the fans in Maastricht have a great time. It would be fun if he made a DVD as he seems to try all kinds of different stuff at his Maastricht concerts.
Well Marilyn, "they" always say, "July is hotter than a fircracker".
I wish it was hot here! We were only 75 or 76 today and that is cool for July. It is a windy day and partly cloudy. It may change for tomorrow but not sure. My sister is having the cookout this time and has planned ribs on the grill and salad and the first sweet corn of the summer. We just had some today and it was so good. We always look forward to that. Hope you all have a wonderful day tomorrow with whatever you have planned! Hugs
Watch that weather girls !!! The 100 year cycle is not good.

You must have been listening to his new CD "You'll Never Walk Alone", It has
wonderful pieces on it.
I LOVE THIS CD VERY MUCH ALSO.IT DOES HAVE A BEAUTIFULLY SELECTED PROGRAM ON IT. JUST KEEP LISTENING TO IT, ALL THE TIME.
I was wondering about the song that Carmen sings "Ebben? Ne Andro Lontana"
What is the translation of the title?
I tried to check it on Babel Fish but no luck. What the song is about generally? A guess is that the singer is expecting someone, but a different person shows up. Anybody Know?
ITALIAN, BY CATALANI, COMPOSED IN 1892 FROM THE OPERA LA WALLY, ENGLISH: LAST NIGHT OF THE PROMS...
Hi Piano,
Thanks for the clues. I googled the opera and got a nice article in Wikipedia. It had the lyrics in Italian and English, and also a brief synopsis of the story, which takes place in the Austrian Tyrol. It's always fun to know something about the music, particularly when it is sung in a foreign language.
MARILYN, I DID NOT KNOW THE OPERA AND THE COMPOSER EITHER, THAT IS WHERE I GOT THE STORY FROM AND THE TRANSLATION. I KNEW THE ARIA, BUT NOT THE STORY. WE LIVE AND LEARN!
That makes at least three of us! I never knew this opera either, only the song.Carmen sings it so well. I copied a bit of information about the opera too.
"Alfredo Catalani (1854-1893)
"Ebben? ne'andrò lontana" from La Wally
Alfredo Catalani, born in Lucca, was among the most important composers of Italian opera just prior to the rise of the verismo school. Catalani entered the Milan Conservatory in 1893; his diploma piece and first contribution to the stage was his one-act opera La falce (1875) to a libretto by Arrigo Boito. He became professor of composition at the Conservatory in 1888, filling the post that was left vacant upon Ponchielli's death two years earlier. In 1887, an Italian translation of Wilhelmine Hillern's novelette, Die Geyer Wally, was published and Catalani turned to playwright Luigi Illica, later known for his collaboration with Puccini, for the libretto. Set in the Tyrolean Alps, the story tells of the impetuous Wally, daughter of a rich landowner, and her love for the hunter Hagenbach. The opera debuted at La Scala on 20 January 1892 and remains Catalani's masterpiece. The most famous aria from the opera, "Ebben? ne'andrò lontana," is sung by Wally in Act I as she makes the decision to leave home rather than marry Gellner, whom her father orders her to wed". Now I'm hoping to find a video of this one some where. Thanks Piano.
Yes I was, and yes it does. I haven't heard that piece since forever, on an older Mantovani LP.
I wish everyone a Happy Fourth of July tomorrow! Be safe, have a great time, enjoy the fireworks wherever you are!
I tend to stay home where it's cool, quiet and comfortable. Well...not completely quiet.
Thomas Jefferson, The Musician
Thanks to Shirley for this article
By Barrymore Laurence Scherer
July 4, 1826, was a significant anniversary in America's history. On that 50th jubilee of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Stephen Foster, who would widely be regarded as the nation's first popular songwriter, was born in Pittsburgh. Meanwhile, in Quincy, Mass., one of the pre-eminent signatories to the Declaration, John Adams, died at age 90. According to tradition, the last words he spoke were "Thomas Jefferson still survives." But his old friend -- and former political rival -- had actually passed away that morning, at 83. And with Jefferson's death the nation lost not just one of its greatest statesmen but one of its cultural leaders.
Jefferson was a true Renaissance man. Law, diplomacy and politics were his profession, but his activities embraced virtually all the liberal arts and sciences: from mathematics and philosophy to economics, archaeology, ornithology, ichthyology, horticulture, architecture, art and music.
Music, however, was Jefferson's particular delight, "an enjoyment, the deprivation of which . . . cannot be calculated," he declared in 1785. From early boyhood, he pursued this "passion of my soul," studying the violin with a teacher in Williamsburg, Va. By the time he matriculated at the College of William and Mary in 1760, his playing was so fluent that he was invited for weekly chamber music gatherings with the royal governor of Virginia. Jefferson even purchased a "kit" -- a slender dance-master's pocket fiddle -- and had a case for it fashioned for his saddle so he could play and practice while traveling.
Not surprisingly, music played an important role in his courtship of the charming young widow Martha Skelton, another Colonial music lover, who played keyboard instruments and guitar. According to Jefferson family lore, two of Jefferson's amatory rivals encountered one another on Mrs. Skelton's doorstep. While waiting to be received by her, they heard her singing a touching song to her own harpsichord accompaniment in an adjoining room. Then they heard a gentleman sing with her and play a violin obbligato. Knowing that Jefferson was the only violinist in the neighborhood, one suitor said to the other, "We are wasting our time," and they quietly left in defeat. Jefferson married Skelton on new year's day, 1772.
The future president's musical tastes -- which he imparted to his children -- were sophisticated and broadly rooted in popular composers from the 17th through the middle-18th centuries. He deemed Arcangelo Corelli his favorite composer, deeply admired Haydn and had a great love for French and Italian opera. Not surprisingly, violin, chamber and keyboard music formed a major part of his extensive music library, which he cataloged in 1783 and is now housed at the University of Virginia.
Among the volumes and music sheets are sonatas, concertos (with accompanying parts), overtures and other works by Corelli, Haydn, Gluck, Handel, Vivaldi, Pergolesi, Boccherini, Stamitz, Clementi and J.C. Bach (J.S. Bach's youngest son). There are also many works by contemporaneous names less familiar today, among them Padre Martini, Gaetano Pugnani, Ignaz Pleyel and the Italianized German Giovanni Adolfo Hasse. Vocal music abounds, including scores of Handel's "Messiah" and "Alexander's Feast," Handel's Coronation and Funeral Anthems, Haydn's solo cantatas, John Gay's "The Beggar's Opera," Purcell's song collection "Orpheus Brittanicus," and Thomas Arne's operas "Artaxerxes" and "Alfred" (with its finale, "Rule Britannia").
Surprisingly, however, there is scant Mozart. And while there are many solos, duos and trios for violin, cello and keyboard, there are no string quartets.
Jefferson also collected American music, both folk songs and those of emerging composers. To his fellow Declaration signer Francis Hopkinson, who ranks as the first American-born composer of art songs, he wrote in 1789: "Accept my thanks . . . and my daughter's . . . for the book of songs [Hopkinson's "Seven Songs" of c. 1784]. I will not tell you how much they have pleased us, nor how well the last of them merits praise for its pathos, but relate . . . that while my elder daughter was playing it on the harpsichord, I happened to the younger one all in tears. I asked her if she was sick. She said, 'no; but the tune was so mournful.'"
According to Jefferson's granddaughter Ellen Coolidge, whose bedroom at Monticello was above his, the former president could often be heard "humming old tunes, generally Scotch songs but sometimes Italian airs or hymns."
In old age, Jefferson wrote with typical insight that "music is invaluable where a person has an ear," continuing that "it furnishes a delightful recreation for the hours of respite from the cares of the day, and lasts us through life." Certainly, music helped the "Philosopher of Democracy" to bear exceptional responsibilities throughout a career in which he was successively a colonial revolutionary, our ambassador to France, our first secretary of state, our second vice president and one of our greatest chief executives.
Mr. Scherer writes about music and the fine arts for The Journal. He is the author of the award-winning book "A History of American Classical Music" (Sourcebooks, 2007).
What an interesting article. I didn't realize that Thomas Jefferson was so musical, not to mention being a violin virtuoso. Thanks so much.
I would recommend this book, A History of American Classical Music. It's a long read but very interesting.Scherer surveys the period from the Mayflower through the Europe-tribute years to the two world wars and onwards to the growing academic and concert confidence of the post-war period. Broadway, opera, musicals, bandstands, marching bands and piano players all get their place.
Take a look at "The Daily Rieu" FIVE beautiful photos from Andre, some are Marc's paintings! Just beautiful!!
Very nice paintings. I really like Marc's style. The picture of butterfly was good too.
I just really like Marc's paintings! and Andre's gardens are magnificent. The butterfly is gorgeous.
I hope that everyone is having a good morning after the fourth! It's nice and quiet here, finally, the noises were going on until after 2 am.
It's been a challenging fourth to say the least, however, everyone that I know is safe and had a great time, so in that sense the fourth was fine.
I put on André's music and the first song I played was "Oh What a Beautiful Morning"....and it truly is!
I checked out "The Daily Rieu" and enjoyed the pictures and comments of André very much. What a nice way to start the day! The jogging outfit is cute
Marc's paintings are incredible. I can imagine the peace of André playing his violin while Marc's painting is hanging on the wall behind him.
I loved the "Trumpet" flowers!! So many on one plant is fantastic, it's a beautiful plant! My brother sells these from time to time and I so enjoy them. They smell really good too!
Of course, the chicken looks yummy!
I'm sure that André will cook up a fantastic meal.
Now, I have to get to work.
Take care everyone and have a beautiful Sunday!
GUSTAV MAHLER
Born: July 7, 1860. Kaliste, Czech Republic
Died: May 18, 1911. Vienna, Austria
Czech-born Austrian composer and conductor. Mahler's music stands at the point of transition between nineteenth century romanticism and twentieth century modernism.
Gustav Mahler's career reflects the artistic ambivalence of the end of the nineteenth century. As a conductor, Mahler's aim was to preserve the tradition of composers of the past, and he was a tireless champion of Beethoven, Brahms and Wagner. In his composition, on the other hand, he embodied many of the new ideas of modernism and fostered the music of his more radical contemporaries, such as Arnold Schoenberg. In the end, his music was overshadowed by these new currents, but has been revived and reevaluated in the last three decades.
Mahler was born in a small Bohemian town, where he studied music with local teachers. In 1875 he went to Vienna to study at the conservatory, where he remained until 1878. Upon finishing his studies, he took a series of conducting posts throughout Central and Eastern Europe, including Budapest, Hamburg and Leipzig. It was in Leipzig that he first attracted notice with his interpretation of Wagner's Ring Cycle. He ultimately ended up in Vienna, conducting the state opera orchestra. His success in transforming the repertory and performance standards of the opera house was nothing short of remarkable, but it came at high personal cost. The constant work forced him to confine his composing to the summer months, and probably contributed to the health problems that would end his life at an early age. In addition, in order to obtain a post in Vienna -- a city with deep undercurrents of anti-Semitism -- Mahler had to renounce Judaism and convert to Catholicism. In the end it did him no good, and these same anti-Semitic forces compelled him to leave the city. He emigrated to the United States.
In New York, he was engaged as conductor for the Metropolitan Opera, and later the New York Philharmonic. When he died at the age of fifty, he was working on his tenth symphony, a work he had postponed thinking it something of a curse (pointing to Beethoven, Schubert and Bruckner). His "real" tenth symphony, Das Lied von der Erde (a setting of six poems by the eighth century Chinese poet Li Po) serves as a fitting summary of his symphonic style, and one of his true masterpieces.
Mahler's music reflects the same ambiguities as his life. He was intensely tied to the past in many ways, following in the footsteps of the great Austrian symphonists. At the same time, he expanded the forms he inherited to a point that it seemed impossible to go beyond.
Well, how knowledgeable everyone is this morning.
I'm really impressed.
ANDRE WITH THE TWITTER PUTS A PERSONAL TOUCH ON OUR BLOG DOESN’T HE?
IT IS VERY NICE TO SEE MARK’S PAINTINGS ALSO, I AM SURE HE IS VERY PROUD FATHER!

New message from Andre on Twitter.
Well, if you've been watching the weather in Maastricht (or even if you haven't) it's going from 93F to 65 and rainy by the time I get there. Will take a couple of sweaters after all. Maybe one pair of shorts. Andre asked people to stop bringing sausages to Clara because it was getting too hot, but guess he'd better start requesting them again. Time to start packing.
Have a wonderful time dear Virginia. Please tell us all about it when you get back. Safe travels to you. Hugs
Hey Virginia, safe travels. Looks like a rainy weekend, but it can't all be a washout. I know you will have a great time anyway. An umbrella might be advisable.
I will be thinking of you and sending some California Sunshine to Maastricht for you!
Can't wait to hear about your trip.
Have a great time Virginia!! I'll certainly be thinking of you.
Our weather here is the same...yesterday it was 90, today it's 60. I like it 60.
It probably won't rain for the concerts, there has probably been enough time for at least some sausages to get delivered to Clara!
Virginia, please tell us all about your trip and the concerts when you get back!!

Hi everyone,
Several weeks ago both Sally and myself wrote to the Netherlands Post Office regarding the Andre Rieu Collectible stamps. I received a reply with an address to contact and give your information on the number of booklets you would like.
The address is: collectclub@tntpost.nl
You will receive a no-reply email from them (in Dutch) stating that you will be contacted in two working days regarding the stamps. I have no idea what they will cost but we initially heard they will be around 10.00 euros plus postage. I just tried this today and I did receive this email so hopefully I will hear from them soon. If you have any problems with the email address please let us know.
I know all of us are anxious to receive a booklet of stamps so I am hoping that they will have some left after the onslought on distribution day. (July 13)
Hi Wendy, I was just thinking of Wilma yesterday because I came across one of your old emails as I was cleaning out my inbox. I am so glad you updated us on her. I just sent an e-card to her and I will visit the web site you posted. Thanks again and I hope you are well. You really did so much for Wilma and I know she appreciates all your work. Take care and let us hear from you again. Hugs to you.

Hi Wendy!!! I hope you are well and happy.
Thanks for letting us know about Wilma, I'm happy to see her online! I'll write to her very soon. It's so easy to email someone rather than snail mail.
Thanks Wendy, I had sent Wilma a couple of e-mails last month but never heard back from her. She had sent her address but hadn't yet learned to send e-mail so I assummed she hadn't answered because she didn't know how yet. Maybe I will try again. She is a lovely lady.
Hello Jeanine Ann,
Many thanks for the information regarding the stamps. I just wrote to them and hope to get a reply shortly.
Cheers Jean (Canada)
Hi to everyone, I have been absent a bit lately for work reasons but hopefully that is all behind me and now I can back to enjoying my favourite website.
What a great time we are coming up to now, MAASTRICHT again. It is amazing how the Maastricht concerts have grown in a few short years. I am so pleased that Andre has recognised this and it obviuosly now going to become an annual tradition that we can all look forward to. Something we can all strive for in our lives to one attend. I know we all think that our own personal meeting with or attendance at our local Andre concert is a dream come true. But, can you imagine what is really like to attend a Maastricht concert in his own home town. Andre always seems to pull something special from somewhere just for Maastricht and the audience's there are just something else. Yep, I think attending Maastricht is just about as good as it can get. Cheers all.
When are you going?
Don't we all wish we were going? Lucky Virginia.
However, I'm not feeling too deprived. It's only 14 weeks till we have Andre back in Australia AND 3 weeks before that we have Helmut Lotti.
After stressing for weeks that I'd miss out on a ticket Helmut is now doing 2 shows in Sydney, so I'm going to both. Originally he only had a Saturday night show, but now there's a Sunday afternoon one too. No way am I going to be sitting on a train on my way back to the town where I live while he's on stage singing in Sydney.
Getting home is now going to be a worry because I'll have missed the train - but I'll worry about that later - much later.

My father was a conductor and I remember at the bombastic sound of the orchestra, to the many music sheets and bows against strings that are always simultaneously in the same direction. I thought that was wonderful! However, I wondered pressed me about the atmosphere at these concerts. all made such a serious face, no one was allowed to räusper, let alone laugh. And even still, the music brought much joy, "says André Rieu.

Hi Just wanted to say Congratulations to Marc on his new baby boy and also to Pierre on his baby due in October!! How exiting for the Rieu clan! I bet Andre and Marjorie are the most excited people in Maastricht right now. Being a grandparent is a wonderful gift!!
Isn't it wonderful? I could see the excitement on Andre's face when he was here in June. And now their boys will have cousins near the same age so that too will be fun for them. Blessing to the Rieu Family
That's fantastic! Congratulations to Marc, Pierre and their wives of course, and to André and Marjorie!! It's going to be a very fun time for all of them!

Hi Marilyn, Yes wonderful news aboug Marc's baby boy. How did you find out about this and that Pierre is also expecting in Otober? Am I missing a website that I should be checking?
I am new at this so don't know all the different places to look.
Cheers, Jean
I have a friend in Maastricht who said something to me, but I didn't want to say anything until it was better known .. most of us have contacts like that.
Thank you Sally, I hope to go next year and maybe I will form a friendship with someone there. You are very lucky to be able to get news fast. Don't forget to have your friend buy you some stamps, I imagine they will go pretty fast. By the way where are you from? I live in a small town west of Toronto, Ontario.
Please keep us up to date with the news, that's great.
Thanks again,
Jean
Two more messages from Andre on Twitter. One photo of Pierre with his museum collection. See "The Daily Rieu" page.
Another message from Andre via Twitter. See the photo of Roos's cute baby boy!

Umbrellas seem to be the required apparel there. They can always play Singing In The Rain.
I like looking at all the tweets. The pictures are great. I'm still waiting for a foto of "in the bath"! hahaha
Me too Shirley. Why does he leave all the good photos off?? : )
Maybe you dream too much?? HaHaHa!
Kati
I couldn't figure out what you were saying about the foto, "in the bath"...so I went to the Daily Rieu.
I had to laugh...yes, it was funny!
I too am a new fan and would like to know where to look for the news
Thanks Marilyn
Hi Marilyn,
You will find most of the news on the Guestbook and on new entries that we send out as an email and also as a page on the blog. All the Twitter news from Andre you will find on the entry page called "The Daily Rieu" and once a month we try to send a news report called "The Rieu Report". Also on the web site we have a page called "News". It is the main page of andrerieufans.com
You will also find links there for Webmaster news, Featured Fans, Photo Gallery, CD's/DVD and Blog. Hope this helps. If you have any questions, please post them here and we will do our best to get an answer for you. Hugs to you.
The rehearsal at Maastricht yesterday was going great, so beautiful with the many musicians and the nice music, but it didn't take so much time, because it was raining too much, the concerts are all open-air. Today is the dress-rehearsal, I couldn't go with my brother today, because I had to work. About 2 hours it's finished. Today the rehearsal takes about 7 hours!! I will ask my brother how it was today, it was raining again so much today in the Netherlands.
WHO IS THE SINGER?? ANYONE KNOWS?
KATI
It is Carmen, Kati. I heard Andre say it at the end.
New Photo on Twitter from Pierre - what is happening right now. The Daily Rieu page.
IF THAT IS CARMEN, SHE SOUNDED DIFFERENT, I DID NOT RECOGNIZED HER VOICE! KATI
Same here Kati
The big Brass Band in action at the first concert in Maastricht. Listening to this and looking at Pierre's photo, is just amazing. What a buzz for those who were there.

AIDA IS A BEAUTIFUL SELECTION!!
That piece always gives me goose bumps!
This is a perfect piece for brass, but where are the horses? I miss them. They "made" this Triumphal March.
I agree Marilyn, like in the Flying Dutchman. That was very impressive.
Great news on Marcs baby here. What date was it born Icant find it anywhere
Hello from cold Maastricht!! So far have been to dress rehearsal and one concert. The dress rehearsal is the best part of the whole thing. You can really see the wheels turning as the crew works out glitches. Then it's fun to see the concert and see how things turned out. Andre put a picture of Ivan on the screen. He introduced a violinist who is the daughter of a violinist who played with him for years. The first of the second generation to join the orchestra. Dresses were great. A few males singing in the chorus. Frank limps onto the stage but he's here! I hope I have some decent pictures. I am in a store doing this. Don't have a laptop but think I will get one. Martha and I were to meet in Amsterdam. Well, turns out it was the trip from hell for both of us. We were supposed to meet at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday. Well, I finally arrived around 4 p.m. Got on the train and there's Martha, she had just gotten there also. I was rerouted to Paris and she was rerouted to Manchester. Of course our luggage didn't come with us. Finally got it on Friday. Nice little hotel. Only a block from the Vrijthof. Spartan and small rooms but charming. Nice staff. More later. Just wanted to say hello.
Hello Virginia,
So great to hear from you. Was wondering how you and Martha were doing. So sorry about your bad trip experience but when it comes to flying, you just never know. I would have loved to see the dress rehearsal and concert. I heard Carmen doing the Earth Song and it was so different and she really did a wonderful job. I didn't recognize her until Andre said her name at the end of the song. I hope you continue to have a great time and I will be thinking of you both. Say "hi" to Martha and give her and yourself a big hug and my love. Hope to hear from you again. Safe travels to you both. HUGS
Hi Virginia, I will send some Calie Sunshine your way!! Get everyone warmed up!
I am glad you and Martha got to meet prior to the concerts and I just know you both are going to have such a good time. I am happy you had a minute to write.
I will be thinking of you both..and the other fans who are in Maastricht. Wishing everyone a lovely set of concerts
Hi Sally, Who is Roos with the adorable child?
Hi Marguerite, this is Jeanine Ann - the baby with Roos belongs to her and Tanya Darwahl (sp)
They are a couple. Roos is the stage manager. I think you know Tanya. Hugs
Thank you so much Virginia! Sorry about the travel woes, but now you can relax & enjoy. Here I sit in hot, hot, hot Mo.
BTW, glad that Frank is there.
What temps do you have Shirley? I am in cool, cool, cool Pa. Cloudy all day and we may have T-Storms. The sun is starting to show a little now. Hugs
Here is something to improve your day no matter what the temperature is!!
Right from Maastricht via Twitter. Will put it on The Daily Rieu page so it will be saved.
My sister had an outdoor movie night at her house last evening. They made a giant screen and showed the Dresden concert. It was a nice evening and everyone enjoyed it. The entire community is always invited. Here are two photos I took of the movie. Now we can see Andre on the BIG screen!!
AREN'T ALL OF YOU WISH WE ALL COULD BE THERE?? I WOULD NOT MIND ANY WEATHER, SUN AND SHINE, RAIN AND CLOUDS, THESE PEOPLE ALL LOOK VERY HAPPY!
I know they are having a fabulous time no matter what the weather is.
Now that's the smile of a new opa!
I don't think he could take a bad picture. He always looks good to me.
Oooh, mice picture ! I would love to print it off.
Yes, Jeanine Ann, that improved my day!
What a terrific picture. There is one happy man.
Wow Jeanine Ann, what a really fantastic
foto of the Maestro. I have not seen him
with such a heavenly "big" smile. Thank you for keeping us updated. I am having a devil of a time trying to stay on line long enough to catch up on all the news. Did you ever get me extended email???? I composed a lenghty chat of sorts. Big Smiles to you.
Hi Judith, glad you like that photo. I did not get your last email. If you can, would you please resend it. I love hearing from you. Just forward it from your "sent" box. Thanks much and have a wonderful day. Big Hugs
We've had hi 90's & hi humidity. heat indexs, 105,104. the air is so drippy & heavy. Hard to breath outside. looks like a whole week ahead of the same. we did get about 10 drops of rain this morning, just made things drippier! I just stay mostly inside when it's like this. I don't think I could make it where Bill lives.
Hello everyone, wanted to say thank you to Virginia for taking time to post for us all back here in the states etc. Say hi to Martha for me! Hope the weather is good and all have safe flights home.
BTW the wine box is really beautiful, as I said before you never know what is next with Andre.
I can close my eyes, and imagine I am in the audience in Maastricht. Hope I get there one day.
My thoughts exactly. Thanks so much to people who are posting the happenins in Maastricht back to us in the States.
Meet Andre's new North American Manager Jim Morey! Interesting!
Some of you inquired about Marc's new baby. I am not sure when he was born, probably early July or end of June but his name is Ivan.
Hi everyone, take a look at the car Andre saw in the parking lot. It is great! I love it!
See "The Daily Rieu" Page.
I guess you can see thru the back? It is original. About the new North American manager, I'm wondering how things will change from the way they have been. I certainly wish him great success. BTW, I'm still waiting for the "bath" picture!
Is this s--y or what!!
I took this from the DVD "A Dream Come True"

BTW doesn't Andre have a great sense of fun and humour?
Who else would think of posting a photo of his lunch on the Net? LOL
Hello Everyone, I see Andre's stamps are now available. If anyone can let me know how I can buy some that would be great. He looks so proud in his latest photo.
Jean (Canada)
Hi Jean, please see the entry called "The Andre Rieu Stamp". That should explain how to order the stamps. If you have any questions please post here. Hugs
André said that it's sad and showed what's left of the "dream" in the Square in Maastricht. Truly it is sad when all the excitement, fun and happiness, has to come down. It seems that it was over very quickly, and I wasn't even there.
Fun times always go by so fast...if we could grab onto the dream and keep it for a long, long time it would be very nice. In a way we can, in our hearts and minds.
André Rieu, we will look forward to another beautiful dream you will bring to us next year at the Square in Maastricht! And even though I cannot be there, it will be in my dreams and in my heart. Thank you!
Beautifully said Marlene, I treasure so
many great times, dreams come true; but
yes, these moments go by soooooo fast.
Ah, thank goodness for "memories".
Having missed Andre's concerts this year my thoughts have turned for the time being to my daughter. Go to the following to see a photo show I made of her growing up:
My best to all

I'M HOME.....Arrived home at 2 a.m. after waiting hours in Newark. Spent two days in Amsterdam before flying back (intentional). From now on will fly from Boston. Newark and Portland always have problems. And if I can get to Boston it's only two hours on the bus to Portland. Anyway we did have a good time. I am too tired now but will at some point give a couple of impressions. First part of week was cold and rainy although it did not rain during concerts but quite cold with puddles in the seats. End of week was good. So once again, Andre arranges to have no rain during the concerts. Haven't had a chance to check my pictures yet. My head is not working right now. I did like Maastricht a lot. Combination of Amsterdam and Maastricht makes a great vacation. I have to go away again for five days end of next week, but then can stay put for a couple of weeks anyway. Suitcases are still sitting in the kitchen where I dropped them. At least kitties are happy they can go out today. My nephew comes in and feeds them but doesn't let them out. Johann took off like a shot. Met some people I have seen on Facebook and Twitter. Nice to actually meet them in person. When my head "unclogs" I'll be in touch again.
Welcome home Virginia! Bet you had a wonderful time. Cannot wait to hear all about it and see your photos!! I guess the kitties really missed you. Get some rest and come back to us. Thanks and big hugs.
Photo of the Day. I do not know who took it but there is a name on the photo which we will use as credit.
Thank you Jeanine Ann for the "Photo of the Day"!!! And thank you Laurens Bouvrie for one very fantastic photo!
ummm, don't you love this one? I would title this one " the eyes have it".
Even Frank Sinatra or Paul Newman have nothing over this guy!
Ohh this is one of my favorites. I almost fell over when I saw it!! I was going to use it for my desktop but don't know if I can stand it - won't get any work done except stare at my desktop : ) Those eyes are something - the mirror to the soul. Beautiful! Hugs
New message from Andre on Twitter. He is working on the DVD!!!!
André sure has a great sense of humor, doesn't he?
26 minutes...yes a lot longer would be fantastic!
GEAT NEWS ABOUT THE DVD!!HOORRAAYY!! ANDRE IS WORKING ON HIS VACATION! WE LIKE TO HAVE AT LEAST 3 HOURS OF SINGING, DANCING, GOOD TIME SHOWN BY THE PEOPLE OF MAASTRICHT. I LOVE TO SEE THEM HAVING THE TIME OF THEIR LIFE!!,KATI EAT NEWS ABOUT THE DVD!!! ANDRE
Another message from Andre regarding the DVD! See Daily Rieu
I think the new dvd might be the concert in Maastricht since Andre talks about Michael Jackson & they did a tribute to him at the concert. With Carmen singing the Earth Song and Andre playing Ben. Just seems logical to me. We shall see. Never know for sure til we see it.
Here I am backstage with Carmen and Carla!!
BEAUTIFUL VOICES!!KATI
They are all so talented and beautiful.
Three such beautiful girls! They look happy too.
I'm looking forward to hearing Andre play 'Ben'. I think it would sound beautiful on the violin.
A new web site for Andre? Check what he says via Twitter on The Daily Rieu page!
André is always bringing us new and exciting things, I can't wait to see the new website! I'm sure we will all love it!!
Photo of the day!!! See this and other beautiful photos on Andre's web site.
Hi everyone, I have changed the first photo on the Brass Player page and added another one of Stef with Mirusia. You will see Stef playing his instrument at Maastricht. Thank you Stef for all the photos and story.
Hi Jeannie Ann, where do I find the Brass Player page?
Jean
Hi Jean,
Just go to the page where you find all the entries like the Guestbook, etc. and click on "Andre Rieu -One Story of a Brass Player in Maastricht". Thanks
Hi, I just love the new CD "You'll never walk alone" as I have said before. Today while driving and daydreaming, I drove right on past my turn once again. I really like the choices he has on this CD. Im amazed at all the songs he must know by heart, he is incredible!
ditto for that cd. Love all the songs. I was listening to it while browsing & came across something I thought was funny, nothing to do with the cd but music in general. Don't know who put it together but will share with everyone:

I love your photos of the day Jeanine Ann.
Just look at that jacket. What a delightfully flambuoyant character he is. Would brighten anyone's day, wouldn't he?
Yes Jill he would. So glad you like the photo. Every once in a while I try to put a nice photo on so all can enjoy it. I love that jacket, it is my favorite color! Hugs to you

They will send me an invoice and then the books. If anyone needs ay more information please let me know.

Jean
Andre received a gift. Check it out on The Daily Rieu page.
OMG! I don't know whether to laugh or cry. I'd say to Marjorie, "there ain't nothing like the real thing baby"!
NICE, NOT EXACTLY LIFE SIZE THOU! I WOULD PREFER THE REAL THING! KATI
I'd prefer the real thing too!
However, the thought is nice and someone put a lot of effort into this gift. However, I'm sure that Marjorie does not need reminders for the real thing, for sure! ha
I know Andre is a real doll but I would prefer the real thing also : )
New message from Andre plus photo on The Daily Rieu page. Putting final touches on DVD!!
