Andre Rieu & The Queen of England

BLACKPOOL, England, December 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Along with Lady Gaga, Michael Bublé and Mika, André Rieu performed in The Royal Variety Performance. With his appearance before as many as 12 million viewers, Rieu has firmly established himself in England.

The Royal Variety Performance is an annual gala evening, which, ever since it was established in 1912, is traditionally attended by members of the British Royal Family. Consequently, Rieu had the opportunity to perform in the presence of Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Phillip. The event was held in The Opera House Theatre in Blackpool.

The Royal Variety Performance is an evening full of entertainment, with performances by popular artists. Rieu therefore shared the stage with artists such as Bette Midler, Lady Gaga, Katherine Jenkins, Anastacia, Michael Bublé, Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), Mika and the cast of Sister Act with Whoopi Goldberg. The popular English comedian Peter Kay was the host.

Michael Bublé, Whoopi Goldberg and Queen Elizabeth spoke well about Rieu's performance. "I enjoyed his performance a lot and have told André that I will come to see his show in New York in June."  Whoopi Goldberg said.

"A performance for the Queen of England and having the opportunity to share the stage with such great stars in front of more than 12 million viewers, which is an enormous honour. This is a new milestone in my career!" said Rieu, who had the opportunity to talk to Queen Elizabeth; "I shook her hand and spoke to her shortly. She was very friendly and told me that she enjoyed the beautiful melodies a lot".

On December 16, The Royal Variety Performance will be broadcast on British TV and will draw an estimated 12 million viewers.

Josephine, I loved Royal Albert Hall too. From what I saw, on Andre's site, he says to the UK,"see you in September". The only thing showing on his agenda right now is Amsterdam,Sept.4th. So maybe he plans a concert or promo tour in September.I hope so, even though I don't live there.
