The "people say adieu" to Gerd Leers on February 26 and will be adorned with live video of Andre Rieu who then performs in Zurich.

According to organizer Huub Adriaens, Rieu also rented a car which heads to Maastricht with a dozen cameramen to capture the farewell.  "Those images are a gift to the outgoing mayor."

There are thousands of people expected on Friday at the market.   Frans Theunisz and The Maastreechter Star will be performing.

"But the focus is on ordinary people," Adriaens states: " as speakers we will have  just ordinary persons."

"It is not a protest demonstration.  All texts should first be discussed,  the intention is only words of thanks,"  implores Adriaens.

Het ‘volksadieu’ voor Gerd Leers wordt op 26 februari opgesierd met live videobeelden van André Rieu die dan optreedt in Zürich.

Volgensorganisator Huub Adriaens huurt Rieu ook een regiewagen met een stuk ofvijf cameramensen in om het afscheid in Maastricht vast te leggen. „Diebeelden zijn een cadeau voor de scheidend burgemeester.”
Er worden die vrijdag duizenden mensen verwacht op de Markt. Ook Frans Theunisz en de Mastreechter Staar treden op.

„Maarde nadruk ligt op de gewone mensen,” stelt Adriaens: „We hebben alssprekers bijvoorbeeld iemand namens Vinkenslag en een mevrouw die opeen steen uit haar tuin een tekst voor Leers heeft laten graveren.”
Hetwordt geen protestdemonstratie. „Alle teksten moeten vooraf wordenoverlegd, de bedoeling is alleen dankwoorden,” bezweert Adriaens
