Andre Rieu

A series of concerts have been booked by André Rieu, one of the world's leading violinists, and his Johann Strauss Orchestra.

DUTCH virtuoso, the violinist André Rieu, is set to wow his fans when he performs here in April.

Also known as the "King of Waltz", Rieu and his Johann Strauss Orchestra and soloists, will be in South Africa for a series of concerts.  Around the world their concerts are sold out, and Rieu was the number one selling male performer in 2009.

He will appear at the Sun City Superbowl, Durban and Cape Town. Speaking during a press conference at the Sun International Head Office in Sandton on Thursday, 4 March, Rieu promised his fans a good show.

"I am sure that I will not disappoint my South African fans during my stay here.  I plan to entertain all who will be at my shows," he said.

Not just a leading violinist, he is also a conductor and a composer, and is best known for creating an international revival in waltz music with his orchestra. The orchestra was formed in 1987 with 12 members but it has since grown to between 40 and 50 musicians.

Together they have performed throughout Europe, North America and Japan, winning a number of accolades, including two World Music Awards.  Rieu's largest concert to date was in Australia, with over 30 000 fans attending.   Some of their performances have been broadcast in the United Kingdom and the United States.

His recordings, both on CD and DVD, have gone gold and platinum in many countries, including eight times platinum in the Netherlands.  They are recorded at his own recording studios in Maastricht, his home town, in the Netherlands.  His taste in music is wide and ranges from classical to pop and folk, including sound tracks and musical theatre.

André Rieu and the Johann Strauss Orchestra will perform nine concerts in South Africa, five of them at Sun City Superbowl, from 23 to 27 April. He will also perform in Durban and Cape Town. Tickets range in price from R450 to R1 050 and are available at Computicket outlets, on 083 915 8000 or 011 340 8000, or online.

    TO THE MODERATOR
Julia in Cape Town and myself in Durban
are involved with service to Senior Citizens. Julia came up with the wonderful idea, would it be possible for our S.C. to attend the practice before the concert. Many can just not afford the price of a concert ticket. We in South Africa have that practice before our evening concerts by our orchestras for a nominal fee they attend
the practice. Would Andre allowe this.
and how can it be arranged if the answer is yes. Can you help me with an
e-mail address of tel no. to approach the right person?

Hello Irene, so nice to hear from you.  I would suggest you write to Andre through his Guest book at  andrerieu.com   Although Andre cannot possibly answer every letter, each one is read and I feel sure all requests such as yours are given to him for consideration.  I do not have an email address to give to you due to the fact that he would be deluged by fans.

I think your idea is a wonderful one and I hope it works out for you and your friends.  Please keep us informed of your request.  Big hugs to all of you.

Irene, André always says on TV in interviews: If you write to André Rieu , Maastricht, it would be delivered to him, but you could try: André Rieu, the Torentjies, Maastricht, Torentjies is the name of his castle. Of course if he answers or somebody from his staff, that remains to be seen, but you can always try.
